Exploring the Depths of Abstraction

My recent artistic endeavours have stemmed from a desire to liberate my approach to creating images and to explore new avenues.

Concurrently, I've been wondering about the influence of the subconscious and how it can be hindered when focusing too much on illusory or figurative work, and on the conventions of our craft, important though that is.

This raises the question of authenticity and truth. Interestingly, during this period of reflection, I came across Mondrian's earlier, more figurative works. I pondered how he transitioned to the iconic style he's known for, and his thoughts seemed to resonate. The geometric shapes and primary hues represent a natural pattern or code, thus embodying a deeper truth than attempts at realistic representation. This struck a chord with me. I found myself delving into the authenticity of artistic expression and the innate creativity inherent in everyone.

My grounding in the Gospel always influences these musings, it’s intricately connected to my exploration of these concepts. I concluded that the subconscious is a vital aspect of the life force that animates each of us—the Creator Himself, in whose image we are made. Regardless of one's beliefs or the darkness of an artist's thoughts, the laws of creation and creativity inevitably manifest in some form, no matter how abstract or removed from nature it may seem.

Despite the diversity among individuals, there exists an underlying unity, binding us together with a shared essence woven into the fabric of our existence.

Abstraction, which is more about letting go rather than abstraction for the sake of it—I mean all art is an abstraction in some way, but I've come to realize that it can serve as a potent conduit for tapping into this collective consciousness. It transcends conventional representation, offering glimpses into universal truths hidden beneath the surface. Just as DNA contains the blueprint of life, abstract art can unveil the fundamental elements of our existence.

Amidst the pursuit of artistic mastery and knowledge, I can't help but wonder if we've lost touch with the innate wisdom within us. Amidst the uncertainty and discomfort of this approach to art, there is a liberating sense of freedom that accompanies surrendering control and allowing my subconscious, or perhaps more appropriately in my case, the Holy Spirit, to guide the way. It is in these moments of relinquishment that true creativity flourishes, yielding outcomes that are unexpected and authentic.

With each new creation, I delve deeper into my creativity, unlocking hidden reservoirs of inspiration and I look forward to doing more of it!
