Daffofils and Crocus

£2,650.00

Oil on Canvas

90 cm x 120 cm x 4 cm

Unframed.

My studio, situated in Cockington Country Park, becomes surrounded by daffodils in spring. I like to use what's around me, study it deeply, and get lost in the complexity and nuance.

This painting is an earnest exploration of the daffodils, with crocus blossoms suspended in an abstract arrangement. Warm yellows are balanced with the surrounding abstract hues.

Painting from life is essential with flowers, in my opinion; you just cannot replicate having them in the room with you. The same goes for just about any subject, in actual fact. I worked on a large scale, at least for me. Painting oversized flowers helps to do them justice and truly explore their abundant presence.
