Oldway Mansion
Oil on Braced Panel
57 cm x 40.5 cm
unframed
Oldway Mansion, an architectural landmark in Preston Paignton, meticulously modelled after the Palace of Versailles. This historic estate, formerly a symbol of opulence, now awaits a 20 million-pound refurbishment. It remains a vital historical relic linked to its affluent owners, the Singer family.
In my painting, I aimed to showcase the mansion's grandeur. The majestic stone columns, reminiscent of ornate balustrades, played with light and shadow, highlighting the enduring elegance of Oldway Mansion. Stone steps led to these columns, while the fading afternoon sunlight added a touch of nostalgia.
In the background, the red stone picture house brings a strong contrast to the blue and violet hues of the main building. This artwork pays tribute to the mansion's enduring legacy and historical significance.
