Gunnera Study

£225.00

Oil on Panel

38 cm x 43.5 cm

Framed

(Painted area: 23 cm x 29 cm)

Gunnera plants continue to fascinate me with their giant features and elegant structure, belaying their rough texture and prickly stems, along with their peculiar flowers. They are undeniable signs of the seasons, remaining strong and vibrant through spring and summer, gradually appearing heavier and bowing from their lofty stance during autumn. Finally, like defeated sentinels scattered across a boggy wasteland, winter reduces them to blacks and browns in a dramatic finale to the year. Each stage serves as a powerful image and consistently inspires me to paint them.
